World War 2 was a
global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945. The war involved more than 100 million
people from over 30 countries. After Germany invaded Poland, Britain and France
than declared war on Germany, which Australia than quickly moved to support Britain
in the war against Germany. Australia’s involvement
in World War 2 began when Great Britain declared war against Germany on the 3rd of September 1939. As Australia
was a loyal member of the British Empire, Australia volunteered their forces for
wherever they were needed. Over a million Australian’s served in World War 2 and
over 40,000 Australians died. On this website we will look at three areas of Australia's involvement in World War 2. The bombing of Darwin in 1942, the fall of Singapore 15th February 1942 and the horrific treatment of Australian prisoners of war.
